Sheila purchased Swains Travel in September 1984.  In the past 24 years through her client centered philosophy, travel expertise, destination knowledge of herself and co workers the agency has grown and prospered in a very competitive business environment.
She attributes the success of the agency to her belief in, and the practice of, placing client’s needs first and  exceeding their expectations for service, travel and destination knowledge.  She enjoys working directly with clients from the planning stages through to client evaluation of their travel experiences.
She has traveled to many places…. by land, air, and sea.  She has cruised extensively with many different cruise lines to Alaska, the Panama Canal, Caribbean and Greek islands, and Mexico, and she has barged in the Loire and Champagne regions of France.
Her most recent travels have taken her to Scotland, Paris and a fabulous villa vacation with friends in Tuscany, Italy.  Sheila also has extensively traveled along the Italian Amalfi Coast, visiting the magnificent towns of Positano, Sorrento, Amalfi, just to name a few, and also the Isle of Capri!!!!!
She has also arranged and escorted a trip for the Nantucket Historical Association to the Azores, this past fall.  Sheila is also arranging a trip for the Maria Mitchell Association  to the Galapagos Islands, this November 2008.
And the Nantucket Historical Association to New Zealand in February 2009.
It is hard to say what Sheila’s favorite destination is as there are so many including Hawaii, Bermuda, France, Ireland and Italy.
Sheila has achieved the highest levels of accreditation in the travel industry… Master Cruise Counselor, and Certified Travel Counselor.

Mary Ellen has lived on Nantucket for 4 years and began working for Swain’s Travel just shortly after her arrival.  Prior to moving to the island Mary Ellen coordinated several Harvard Medical School Continuing Education Courses for the Division of Surgical Oncology at the Massachusetts General Hospital.  Having acquired the knowledge and expertise in event planning in her previous position, Mary Ellen was initially responsible for coordinating all of the agencies incoming weddings and corporate groups Nantucket.
She has now transitioned to a part time world wide travel specialist in the office.  Having lived in Boston for entire life, Mary Ellen is very Familiar with New England destinations including: Boston,  New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island and the Cape & Islands. 
After catching the “travel bug” several years ago Mary Ellen has traveled to many locations in Europe including Italy, Ireland (extensively), France, Austria, and the Czech Republic.  She has also visited many of the Caribbean islands including most recently the Turks & Caicos Islands along with St Maarten, Anguilla, the Grenadine Islands, British Virgin Islands and the Cayman Islands. One of Mary Ellen’s favorite ways to see the Caribbean is chartering her own sailing vessel.
Recently, Mary Ellen also had the opportunity to visit Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.
This past year Mary Ellen cruised on Royal Caribbean with a group of friends.   She also enjoyed the concierge service on a recent Celebrity Cruise.
Mary Ellen has also developed expertise in Disney destinations including Disney Cruises with her young family.  For those families wanting a getaway that is superbly organized with activity rich children’s programs, she highly recommends Disney Cruises.

Wenche "Venka" is from Norway, has over the last 12 years worked as a travel consultant in the US and Norway, helping corporate and retail clients with their travel. She has traveled within Europe, Asia, South Pacific, Caribbean, South America and the US.

Travel to far away places has been her lifelong passion which she has pursued with vigor and delight.  Her adventures have included over 20 cruises, many overland excursions and dozens of city visits everywhere in the world. 
She has traveled to every country in South America, every country in Western Europe, almost every island in the Caribbean, Canada, Mexico, Russia, but most especially Asia; India, Thailand, Malaysia, Burma, Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Vietnam and China.
She has cruised from Santiago Chile around Cape Horn, to Rio De Janeiro, stopping in Puerto Montt, Patagonia, Ushuaia, Falkland Islands ending in Buenos Aires and from Miami through the Panama Canal and along the Pacific Coast of South America through the straights of Magellan and the Eagle Channel.  She has cruised the waters of Asia revisiting for the fourth time Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and China.
In addition she traveled to Cambodia, Laos, Bruni and Japan.   She also took an exotic journey overland from Bangkok to Cambodia and again to Burma, the isolated Himalayan Buddhist Kingdom of Bhutan, Nepal, then to the districts of Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Kerala in India.  That journey ended on the spectacular beaches of the Indian Ocean nation of the Maldives.  Most recently  she has revisited Caribbean destinations to experience new and classic luxury resorts and villas in St Maartin, Anguilla, Nevis and St Barths  which has become her very favorite Caribbean  watering place. 
She has been associated with the travel industry for over 35 years including 12 years in a part time capacity at Swains Travel.  She loves to share her joy of exploration with clients who are planning a trip near or far, even to the ends of the earth.

Emily joined the staff at Swain’s Travel in January of 2007. A Nantucket resident since 1981, her favorite vacation destinations are the islands of Hawaii, in particular the Fairmont Orchid resort on the Big Island, and the Grand Hyatt Kauai. Last summer, she celebrated a milestone birthday with a week at the Lake Austin Resort and Spa in Texas, designated the number one Destination Spa in the United States by Conde Nast Traveller. Most recently she returned from a week in the Caribbean onboard the Crown Princess, visiting Barbados, Antigua and Tortola.
Having achieved her Spa Specialist Designation, Emily put together the first Swain’s Travel Spa Weekend Getaway package in Newport Rhode Island last Fall.  A similar weekend will be offered this year in a different, but equally enjoyable location.

After 16 years of living of living on Nantucket, Bobbi relocated to Pinehills, in Plymouth, MA where she is an Independent Travel Agent for Swains Travel.  Bobbi, after being bitten by the travel bug has many years of travel and tourism experience and frequently journeys to Europe including numerous trips to Italy and France.  Her most recent journey was on a European  River Cruise from Prague to Budapest, which she says was “magnificent”!!!!!

Stan helps out part-time - he stops by every now and then to change the printer ribbons and water bottles. He's from Florida, where he has an 'occasional'  winter home. His favorite trips include the South of France, which he tries to make an annual event (at least!), and bareboat chartering in the Virgin Islands. Last fall, he bicycled from Prague to Vienna with Butterfield and Robinson.
